"Clever Dreamland" by CLEVER TEAM - updates

-->
“Tonight we’re going to stand the ground…
Tonight there is no way back…
My brothers, my sisters,
I see your trembling hands
I see the shadows in your eyes
It's fear...
But i see also something else
I see rage...
I see rage in your hearts…
Hear your hearts…
Hear them beating!
We're on the good side
We’re fighting here a good war!
On this one we have the gods on our side!
Hear your hearts!
Hear your hearts!
Take their rhythms with!
And fight!
Fight...

Tonight maybe we’re all going to die...
But we will survive,
We’ll survive in the songs,
We'll survive in the legends,
We'll live in the stories that are being passed from a generation to the generation.
We will inspire our children and the children of our children,
Our folk!
Because we'll fight! We will fight until the end!
So take the rhythm of your hearts and fight!
Fight!!!
Fight!!!!!
Fight!!!!!!!!”

In their new project the team will dig into the universe of hollywood movies in order to motivate the spectators to follow their dreams, change their lives and leave the past behind.
The performance “Clever Dreamland” will reflect on:

*the phenomenon of motivational speech in hollywood movies; by mastering the art of affecting oratio CLEVER TEAM will inspire the audience’s new visions and heroic actions to make a difference to the society, in general, or to their own lives, in particular.

*Pathos; Pathos is a quality of an experience in life or a work of art that stirs up emotions (like pity, sympathy and sorrow). It represents an appeal to the audience’s emotion as a communication technique. CLEVER TEAM believes that only through emotional involvement the motivation for major life transformations can be created. In the modern culture pathos has very pejorative reception while at the same time it might determine happiness and make the dreams come true. The team is interested in this ambiguity: from one side pathos often refers to the “bad” taste and kitsch, from the other side it can provoke the desired life changes and improvements.

*a passion-evoking stage presence; great motivational speeches present in Hollywood productions will serve as a point of reference and inspiration for the performative modus of the performers. The passion-evoking narratives will consist of the typical cinematic themes like man versus nature, man versus himself, loss of innocence, revenge, death as a part of life, the battle, individual versus society, triumph over adversity, love conquers all, good versus evil.

*the overwhelming power of cinematic apparatus; by using very defined and aesthetic picture in connection with epic music and sound effects the cinema has highly affecting impact on the spectator. It is often immensely manipulative art form. By deconstructing the cinematic tools (like picture, music, distance from the spectator, light, costume, scenography) and juxtaposing them in different contexts CLEVER TEAM will construct its own form of manipulation in order to inspire the audience to follow their dreams… as well as to expose the mechanisms of manipulation itself.

*a movie language versus stage performance; CLEVER TEAM is aware that the type of expression and communication as well the relation: art work exhibition <> spectator differs significantly between film and live performance. The team’s interest lies in the dramaturgical tension while applying certain cinema tools and modes of expression typical for film in live stage performance.

CLEVER DREAMLAND in work-in-progress

CLEVER TEAM has begun the rehearsal of their new production "Clever Dreamland". The premiere is foreseen in June or at the beginning of July 2016. It'll be confirmed soon.

Hold your ground! Hold your ground! [...]
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of men fails,
when we forsake our friends
and break all bonds of fellowship,
but it is not this day.
An hour of wolves and shattered shields,
when the age of men comes crashing down,
but it is not this day!
This day we fight!! ("The Lord of the rings")

On this team, we fight for that inch
On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us
to pieces for that inch.
We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch.
Cause we know
when we add up all those inches
that's going to make the fucking difference
between WINNING and LOSING
between LIVING and DYING. ("Any given Sunday")

In "Clever Dreamland" CLEVER TEAM will confront the audience with biggest fears - fear of death and aging, fear of loosing, fear of changing, fear of loosing, etc. Inspired by the Hollywood productions the team will reflect on the role of pathos as the impulse in life changing processes. The focus will be put on the motivational speeches in famous film production.

"Instant Opera" teaser online

CLEVER TEAM released the teaser of their new production-in-progress

CLEVER TEAM (Radek Hewelt and Filip Szatarski) began to work on their new project called "Instant Opera. Adult Crying Inventory". The video teaser marks the beginning of a researching phase. The project is to be accomplished with a live performance in Fall 2014.

New mission of CLEVER TEAM

In their new project: “Instant Opera. Adult Crying Inventory” CLEVER TEAM will concentrate on the painful consequences of economic crisis. Considering themselves the very sensitive and attentive members of society, Radek and Filip will propose the audience a performance with the unique therapeutic properties. It will be addressed to all those who have been affected by the economic crash. This time all the members of the audience will have a chance to start the process of healing the emotional wounds caused by the burden of the crisis.
Probably each of us has been struggling lately with debts, financial insecurity or overwork. It might lead to the overload of emotional structure and put our mental health out of balance.
CLEVER TEAM would like to propose a clever solution for all these problems of mental nature.
The offer includes emotional cleansing and purification through the almost forgotten experience of CATHARSIS. The aim is to let the audience experience the remedial properties of music. CLEVER TEAM is going to propose the multi sensual journey through the most capacious form of performing arts – the OPERA.

More information will follow!

CLEVER TEAM invites to like its CLEVER PROJECT facebook page were team's activities can be seen.

CLEVER PROJECT review (english translation)

"It Might Be Your Last Day"

Radek Hewelt and Filip Szatarski dance a "Clever Project" at WUK Vienna.

The arts sector benefits from the crisis - provided it is clever. Or rather, provided all sorts of art dealers, agents and speculators are clever. The two performers Radek Hewelt and Filip Szatarski - aka The Clever Team - want to be as clever as possible. That is why their "Clever Project", which currently premiered at WUK Vienna, is so touching.

The two performers are well aware that there is no large profit to be made in contemporary dance.  Still, it should at least be possible to place a few bets on it. This is put to the test here. The audience knows right away about their first bonus of the evening: They get ten performances for the price of one.

At the beginning, a song for two voices defines the basis of a proper speculation: "Tomorrow, when you open your eyes and you look through your window, remember: It might be the last day of your life."  Right, it is the mood that counts! The awareness that death might be at your doorstep creates a demand for whatever you would still like to indulge yourself in.

Becoming a tree, for example. Even in the theater, if need be. With your life at stake, dreams are in great demand. The same goes for meditation, just in case you might become a bit tight. So, the Clever Team - with plenty of commonplace phrases - guides the audience through a group meditation, which soon dissolves into the nirvana of an opera spoof.

At this point, the piece turns into a pearl of irony, which gets even bigger, as Radek Hewelt grabs his ukelele and - tender at first, then with more and more rock 'n' roll force - sings the same line over and over: "When I was young, smoking, fucking, drinking all the night, my mind was drugged." The sentimental values of rock 'n' roll are a safe bet these days, just as those of high culture.

Why? As an answer, the two performers tell their own biographies. Good choice. Firstly, because this always works, and secondly, because it is a way for us to understand our own finite lives better.

Radek and Filip set out together to find the Holy Grail, to conquer the world. They suffered hunger and rejection, invented a healing-method - and the first projector. They thought they were the center of the world. Until dark clouds loomed over the horizon and a "Stagnator"-monster descended upon them.

It won´t be revealed here how the Clever Team mastered this crisis. Yet something obvious needs to be said: This piece is a both excellent and poignant satire on crises and emotional speculation in our cultural life.
