CLEVER PROJECT

Shortly about the project:

The "CLEVER PROJECT" is thought to be an answer to the current political, social and economic times in which we are living. Since the Lehman Brothers Holdings bankruptcy in September 2008 it seems that at least North America and Europe are in permanent crisis. Huge amount of funds were and are spent for saving banks, financial institutions and states. The governments are reducing budgets expenses to prevent progressing indebtedness. Social privileges are limited or abolished. Less and less investments are being made. The funds for culture are being continuously decreased. Social moods are getting more radicalized. The politicians and experts from different disciplines are trying to find the way out from this turning point.
This situation begins to influence also free-lance art scene.
But we - Radek Hewelt and Filip Szatarski, the members of CLEVER TEAM - are the optimists and want to propose the solutions for this critical situation.

Our general concept for surviving these hard times is contained already in the working title of the project. It is related to:

1.) adjective "clever" understood as quick to understand or to apply. Its synonyms are the words like skillful, capable, smart or canny,

2.) "clever" products being available in popular Austrian supermarkets like Billa and Merkur. The philosophy of "clever" products is based on 2 pillars: to be cheaper equivalent for the same but more expensive articles and still to meet approved quality. To be cheap is not enough!

We want to offer our audience cleverly made and discounted show(s). We are also willing to secure high quality of our performance. We believe that being cheap is not the only value. We want our performance to taste good.
Therefore, alike the "clever" products, low-cost airlines, discount shops and all other companies that offer their clients cheaper but quality equivalents, we are going to use certain strategies to reduce the costs of our project but meet the high standards expected by our spectators.
The CLEVER TEAM's principal aim is to prove that clever doesn't only mean cheap. That it means inventive, open-minded, pure and revolutionary.

Our main proposition is to offer 10 performances in one, plus bonus time, for the price of one theater ticket. Clever ticket for intelligent people!

We believe that our background as the artists born in communistic country, who in their childhood and teenagehood went through the massive economic crisis in 1980's in Poland, who experienced the time of transformation of political system and who by the nature of our profession had to be mobile and capable for quick adaptation in frequently changed places of residencies (including different countries) makes us particularly equipped experts in survival strategies.

CLEVER PROJECT is supported by the City of Vienna (Kulturabteilung der Stadt Wien - MA7). It's co-produced by WUK/Vienna. It receives also the support from Polish Institute in Vienna, Gdanski Festiwal Tanca (Gdansk Dance Festival) and d.id/danceidentity in Pinkafeld (Burgenland).
