"Symposium" by Elisabeth Tambwe

Elisabeth Tambwe’s installations and performances touch the sore spots of a post-colonial world, the disastrous condition of which she criticises with sharp irony. In Symposion, which combines movement, text, video and sound, three performers are caught in perpetual preparation: of a show, of a reconciliation that will never be achieved, of climaxes of a sexual or any other nature. “Pop culture as a machine of lust discourse” (Der Standard) incessantly devours and generates, and the juxtaposition of porn and politics reveals itself in all its glory. It seems like masturbation is the only shimmer of hope far and wide …

For 14 years already, the [8:tension] Young Choreographers’ Series has presented new generations of choreographers of the international dance and performance scene. 2015 the series comprises 11 productions, which are all also nominated for the Casinos Austria Prix Jardin d'Europe, endowed with Euro 10,000. It will be awarded by a prestegious jury consisting of Ivo Dimchev, Sigrid Gareis and Faustin Linyekula. For the first time the popular Fan Award will be given away in cooperation with radio FM4 – via online voting you can cast your vote for the artist clip of your heart, as of 04 July!
